The third edition of Q-Expo 2026 at the Euskalduna Palace and the international Quantum Readiness for Business conference in Donostia-San Sebastián have consolidated the Basque Country’s position as a European benchmark in quantum technologies.
Both events brought together institutional representatives, technology companies, research centres, startups and industrial stakeholders from different countries to address the challenge of transforming quantum research into solutions applicable to industry and consolidating a competitive European ecosystem in a field considered strategic for the continent’s technological and economic future.
The European event, organised by the European Quantum Industry Consortium (QuIC), the leading European association for the quantum sector, showcased the progress of the Basque ecosystem in quantum computing, sensing and advanced communications, as well as the role played by cutting-edge infrastructures such as the IBM Quantum System Two installed in Donostia and the quantum hardware laboratories at CIC nanoGUNE. During the sessions, institutions and companies stressed the need to strengthen public-private collaboration, accelerate technology transfer and prepare the business community for the adoption of quantum solutions capable of solving complex problems in sectors such as energy, finance, mobility and healthcare.
