Description
The project involves the development of a total of 36 use cases based on quantum technology, with a view to their integration into strategic productive sectors during the current financial year as part of the project.
Among the developments already underway, the following stand out: solutions aimed at optimising supply chains, the development of quantum sensors for industrial environments, quantum management of urban traffic, optimisation of communications and electricity networks, quantum drug discovery, ground-to-space quantum links, prediction of pharmacological response, port energy management systems, quantum processing of satellite imagery, quantum financial optimisation, intelligent defence systems in asymmetric warfare, and the detection of specific proteins, amongst many others.
In addition to developing these innovative applications, the project involves assessing their impact, launching training programmes, producing reports and providing training in quantum technologies, as well as disseminating the results and monitoring their implementation. In this regard, all partner organisations in the alliance will support the project by disseminating some of its results.
Furthermore, as part of the project, the current competences and capabilities of the Autonomous Communities for the development of their own quantum ecosystem will be analysed, with the aim of identifying opportunities and areas for improvement.
The agreement signed between GAIA and Red.es has a total budget of €4,655,000, 80% of which comes from European Next Generation EU funds, with the remaining 20% contributed by the participating organisations. The initiative forms part of Spain’s Quantum Technologies Strategy 2025–2030.
Objective
The aim of the project is to boost Spain’s quantum ecosystem and bring this emerging technology closer to business and economic activity. The initiative is being carried out under the agreement signed in December 2025 between a public-private partnership represented by GAIA and Red.es, an entity attached to the Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Civil Service, via the State Secretariat for Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence.
